One - Week 4: Forgiveness
- What stood out to you most from the sermon, and why do you think it caught your attention?
- Re-read proverbs 19:11 – what are some examples of times when we simply need to overlook an offense?
- Re-read Matthew 18:21-22 – Jesus calls us to forgive many times. What makes that difficult?
- Re-read Ephesians 4:32 – the word “forgiving” in this verse means to voluntarily release someone of a debt. How does that help you reframe what it means to forgive?
- One principle of forgiveness is that it doesn’t always mean reunion in the relationship. What are some reasons why you might forgive someone but not reunite in the relationship?
- Lewis Smedes says – To forgive is to set a prisoner free, only to discover that the prisoner was you. What do you think that means? Do you have a story of a time you experienced the freedom of forgiveness?
- Are you currently walking through a season of discerning what forgiveness might look like with someone in your life? Without sharing details, consider inviting those around you to be praying for you.
- Share with one another ways in which you can be praying for each other this week.
